The nine literary figures here depicted at Shakespeare and Company, the Paris bookshop of American Sylvia Beach, are: James Joyce, Paul Vallery, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, André Gide, Adrienne Monnier, and Miss Beach, the proprietor. A bust of William Shakespeare stands atop a bookcase.
