SKINNER LABEL: The three toed dragons denote that these swords were used by people lower in rank than the royalty and nobility.
SKINNER CATALOGUE: A Chinese sword, slightly curved, with very sharp single edge blade with wide double bevel, 21 7/8" x 1". Oval copper guard, 2 3/4" x 2 17/32", finely stippled, pierced, and repoussed with a pheasant on one side and a tiny flower on the other. Wooden handle, covered with a reptile skin and bound full length with twisted blue tape. A three toed brass dragon is held each side in the tape twists. Ferule and end plate decorated with tiny gilt flowers. Wooden scabbard, enamelled in Chinese red with black markings, black band at open end and black oval belt hook, steel cap at squared point end. Weight: 24 ozs. Cat. 10/6/1935.
