Description:
Narrative scene of Christ in the house of Mary and Martha. Depicts an interior domestic space that opens up onto a distant landscape. Christ stands before a doorway to the right with two men behind him. Martha stands at Christ's right, bent at the waiste with her arms outstretched, and Mary kneels at his left. In the right foreground, a man kneels over a basket of fish. On the left side of the composition, a woman kneels before a fireplace and stirs a pot while a man prepares food at a table. The center of the composition is occupied by a table situated so that the viewer's eye wanders to the natural scene, where a castle or town and a woman at a well are visible in the distance.
