The Arch of Trajan in Ancona is centrally depicted with the ocean and beach visible to the right and in the background. In the foreground, people on the shore engage in activities that include boat construction, laundry, and strolling. Several ships on the ocean are visible in the distance. In the foreground, on the lower right, the bows of two ships break into the frame.
