ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a Pentelic marble original dating to the Classical Period, ca. 400 BCE. This grave stele, excavated from the Kerameikos cemetery in Athens, depicts a female slave presenting her seated mistress with a box, perhaps a jewelry box. The inscription on the frieze of the stylized temple fa├žade above the two figures includes the name of the memorialized mistress, Hegeso.
