Description: Chinese export porcelain teacup and saucer decorated in blue with a feather and flowers in a vase on a table to the right, and a large floral spray scrolling to the left. This set was listed in the 1920 catalogue in the Main Hall, Case F, given by Miss Amellia Smead, Manzana, Cal.: "33. One Cup and Saucer. Canton China.". According to George Sheldon, Miss Amelia Smead (1833-?) was the daughter of Solomon and Dorinda Smead of Shelburne, who married in 1825. Amelia's grandparents were Elihu (1765-1840) and Mercy Bardwell (1769-1813) Smead; Mercy's brother, Henry Bardwell (1767-1827), had a daugher, Catherine Elizabeth Bardwell Allen. When Catherine died in 1889, she bequeathed "one cup and saucer old sett" to Amelia. [MHF 33]
