Description: Man's three-piece suit consisting of a coat, waistcoat, and breeches in matching off-white silk velvet, decorated with an all-over pattern of small elipses or ovals in alternating bands of pink and black, and green, tan, and black. Each vertical band is separated by pinstripes of uncut velvet, spaced about 1/2-5/8" apart. The suit came to the museum with a history of ownership to William Tatnall (1740-1826) of Leighton Abbey, Suffolk, England, who wore it at his 1785 marriage to Mary Carter (1751-1837), also of Suffolk. The couple had two daughters, Harriet Mary and Anne Sophia.
