Description:
Untrimmed reindeer hide of "Russia leather" raised from the wreck of the of the ship "Die Frau Metta Catharina", which sunk of Plymouth, England, bound for Genoa, Italy in 1786. The two hides, both untrimmed and trimmed, are documents of the upholstery trade in both America and abroad where "Russia leather" was the most highly prized for its color and durability. These hides are significant for their incredible, "like new" condition.
