Description: Silver spoon with an upturned pointed-end handle and oval bowl with a tapered drop and a bird holding an olive branch on the back, which is marked "GH" in an oval and engraved "EG" in script on the handle. Although this spoon was originally attributed to George Hanners, Sr. (c.1696-1740) of Boston; the mark does not match any of the Hanners' marks shown in Patricia Kane nor those of his son, George Hanners, Jr. (1721-1760). This mark is now attributed to George Hendel (1776-1842) of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, who worked as a silversmith in Carlisle from 1803-1837. The Yale Art Gallery has a silver teaspoon with this "GH" mark, which is decorated with a bird holding an olive branch.
