Description:
Large zinc weathervane in the shape of a quill pen with traces of gilding. It is believed that these quill-shaped weathervanes were commonly installed atop schools due to the quill's association with writing and learning. However, quill weathervanes were undoubtedly used atop other buildings, as the form appeared almost universally in weathervane manufacturers' catalogues and appear to have been a common form.
