Description:
English pearlware triple-mug ‘fuddling cup’, circa 1820. Formed as three conjoined cylindrical mugs, each with a loop handle with foliate terminals, and with a hole pierced on the interior of the lower body for the flow of liquid between the three, and inscribed in underglaze-brown "Come Drink to me" on one, "For I am He" on the second, and "Your master shall be" on the third, all between brown dashed diamond devices, the rims and footrims edged in brown. Although fuddling cups were commonly used for drinking games, this example's inscription may have a more moderating view of alcohol consumption.
