Description: Tin-glazed earthenware dish, molded without a foot rim, a so-called pancake or pannenkoek plate, decorated in polychrome colors of orange, manganese purple, blue, and green, scene depicts a stylized Chinese man seated outdoors, on the left is a tree with sponged leaves and branches, on the right is a small house and green shrub, blue line border. The plate could probably Dutch in origin. Similar plates have also been attributed to Bristol, England. On the reverse is an attached paper label with typed inscription, "8" plate of Dutch Delftware/ in green, blue, orange and powdered/ manganese of Chinaman seated between/ tree and small house in blue border./ Delft, ca. 1725" Ex Coll. Rachel and Reginald French. Condition: small chip to rim on underside of plate.
