Description: According to the Records of the 2nd Congregational Church in Deerfield (South Deerfield), on July 17th 1818, Dennis Arms and John Anderson were appointed a Committee to procure furniture for the Communion Table. This Committee was instructed to prepare a subscription paper to raise money to pay for sd [said] furniture." This two-handled cup was used for the service of wine during communion. It is not marked and may have been added at a later date to the communion set purchased from the Boardmans of Hartford. Cast pewter, two handled cup, body has flaring, rolled lip, cylindrical body with swelled base, two attached s-shaped handles on either side, cup sits on a round base with molded edge, scratched on the underside of the foot is the name "L. Pease." Pewter expert and dealer Wayne Hilt believes that the unmarked two-handled cup inscribed “Pease” was probably made by Israel Trask (1786-1867) of Beverly, MA (w. 1813-1856).
