Description:
The Social Library of Stepney Parish, Wethersfield, was founded in 1794 and operated until 1847. The unsigned plate, attributed to Amos Doolittle, dates from the 1790s. The bookplate is engraved with two piles and one row of books on shelf. Hourglass in midair above. Drapery above all. The text reads: "WASTE NOT A MOMENT/ Social Library./ Stepney Society/ WETHERSFIELD/ No. 349 [in manuscript ink]/ Annual Meeting 1st Monday in Dec. at 6.P.M. when every book is to be returned."
