Description:
Powder horn inscribed “WILLIAM / GODING his horn made at Fort Edward / Mch 20 1759 / 1759,” which is attributed to Jacob Gay based on its great similarity to the signed Pemberton horn (HD 2005.20.24). Many map horns depicting large tracts in great detail were carved as souvenirs of service, or later as reproductions. Occasionally horns depict simple maps of small areas for practical use in the field. This map has buildings at Fort Edward. Goding has not been identified.
