Description: Powder horn inscribed "David Wheeler...." of Fairfield, Connecticut, which is attributed to the J.W. carver. The wheeler horn has been cut down by at least 6 inches, but is included because of the superior quality of its engraving and because two other men in the same regiments also owned J.W. horns. The calligraphy is typical of J.W.'s best engravig, utilizing his flowing style of lettering with winged serifs on some letters. The horn appears to have been cut down during the 18th century after it sustained damage to the plug end. David Wheeler served in the 1755, 1757, and the 1761 campaigns.
