Description:
Oil painting of four gondolas on a canal in a city, which has a label on the reverse side: "ACADEMY BOARDS / Artist's, Engineers' and Draughts--- / Instruments and Supplies / ALL PYROGRAPHY REQUISITES / FROST & ADAMS COMPANY / 37 CORNHILL, BOSTON, MASS." The painting is attributed to Edwin A. Clare (1895-1967) whose daugher, Cathleen Clare Esleeck, married the donor. In the 1930s and 1940s, Clare became interested in painting landscapes in oil in the Connecticut River Valley, Dorset and the Averill Lakes in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont; and Brooklin, Maine. He exhbited in Ogunquit, Boston, and Hartford, Connecticut.
