Description:
Silver tablespoon with an elliptical bowl (tip worn) and rounded drop; straight hemispherical shaft tapered to upturned rounded-end handle; long midrib on the front of the handle, which is marked "A.W." in a serrated rectangle on the back of the handle attributed to Ambrose Ward (1735-1808), and engraved with the initials "EG" in large block letters on the back of the handle. This touchmark is unlike other examples of marks used by Ambrose Ward. According to Mr. Kossack's notes, this spoon came out of a Madison, Connecticut, estate.
