Description:
In this rendition in the "Circular Ruins" series, the artist prints an image of a woman, the Greek princess Ariadne in the artist's imagination, who sits on a stack of burning books. This print is superimposed onto a yellow sewing paper with black text that are instructions making pants. Both of these layers are on top of a book page from "Fanny Kemble: A Passionate Victorian" by Margaret Armstrong.

Label Text:
"Fanny Kemble: A Passionate Victorian" by Margaret Armstrong, a biography about a British actress and traveler who marries a plantation and slave owner from Georgia. She wrote a journal about the horrors she witnessed on the plantation that was circulated among the abolitionists. She divorced in 1850. In 1863 her journal was published, "Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation in 1838-1839" to the praise of England and the Northern States.
