Label Text: This impression was made in preparation for a more complex lithograph, in which Oriole Farb Feshbach overlaid Megan with a second profile done after Piero del Pollaiuolo’s late fifteenth-century Portrait of a Woman. Feshbach created this artwork in 1977 while working as Visiting Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Amherst College. Remarkably, she was the first woman ever hired by the department. The final lithograph, Megan Inspired by a Renaissance Portrait, was featured in Feshbach’s faculty exhibition, Valley People, at the Mead Art Museum in December 1978 and January 1979, along with other multilayered portraits—some inspired by Renaissance paintings, others, composites of several different photographs of the sitter.
