Label Text:
Known for his large-scale draped color canvases, Gilliam is interested in following the integrity and possibilities of the materials he employs in his work. In this collage, which approaches sculpture in its three-dimensionality, Gilliam allowed the materiality of paper to dictate the composition. The sharp lines, folds, and layering of the paper lend an improvisational quality to this abstract work.
