Description:
ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a bronze original, attributed to Pheidias, dating to the Classical Period, ca. 450 BCE. This figure of Athena, dedicated by the inhabitants of Lemnos, stood on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The cast itself is made from a composite mold based upon a Roman copy of the Pheidian head, located at the Museo Civico Bologna in Bologna, Italy, and a Roman copy of the Pheidian body, located at the Albertinum in Dresden, Germany. Both partial Roman sculptures are copies of the original Greek bronze.
Provenience: Greece, Athens, Acropolis (original)
