Description:
Shelf clock in a Federal, mahoganized pine case. Found in Charlemont, Massachusetts, this shelf clock is truly a miniature tall clock in both its case - with the pedimented hood, waist, and base - and the movement, which is a fully mechanized 8-day brass movement with a rack and snail strike system and a lunar dial calibrated to run on a pendulum 10" long. The case is topped by three wooden, urn finials over a scrolled, molded hood. The clock face with roman numerals, framed by tapered columns, has a brass dial and moon phase indicator, which is unusual on a such a small clock; there are glass panels on each side of the clock face. The lower section of the case is plain, with mid-molding over the base, which has a valenced skirt and french feet.
