Description:
One of three silver teaspoons (HD 2009.26.32-.34) a pointed oval bowl, rounded shoulders, and upturned double-swell fiddle handle with a short mid-rib on the front, which is marked "H. COGSWELL" on the back for Henry Cogswell (1824-1865), and engraved with the initials"[illegible] HFG"? on the front of the handle. This is one of a collection of silver spoons from the Viola Wilby estate. Cogswell worked as a silversmith and jeweler in Salem from about 1845 to 1865, and was in partnership with John Carwick Cogswell as "J. C. & H. COGSWELL" around 1850-1851 in Salem.
