Description:
Silver tablespoon with a pointed oval bowl (slightly dented), pointed shoulders, and downturned fiddle-end handle, which is marked "A. HEWS JR" in a rectangle for Abraham Hews, Jr. (1797-1868), and engraved "ATW" in script on the handle for Abigail Tirrell Wells (1780-1859) who married Walter Wells (1770-1853) in 1807 and lived in Shelburne, Massachusetts. This spoon is part of a collection of silver spoons from the Viola Wilby estate. An attached paper lable reads: "Abigail Tirrell Wells / 1807" and "8" in a circle. Hews worked as a silversmith and jeweler in Boston from 1823 to 1850 under this mark.
