Description:
Silver tablespoon with an elliptical bowl and a deep creased rounded drop; thick wide rectangular shaft tapered to wide downturned rounded-end handle; short midrib on the back of the handle; and feathering around entire edge of handle. The spoon is marked "TS" in square twice on back of handle for Thomas Shields (1743-1819), and engraved with the initials "GML" in script on front of the handle. Shields was active in Philadelphia from 1765-1791.
