Description:
Silver tablespoon with an elliptical bowl and deep molded drop, straight, hemispherical shaft tapered to upturned rounded-end handle, short midrib on front of handle tip,, which is marked "S. BARRETT" in a rectangle for Samuel Barrett (c.1735-1815), and engraved with the intials "B / I S" and "JA" in gothic letters over "1924" (added later). Probably born and baptised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Barrett likely completed his training about 1756 and moved his family to Nantucket in 1763. Although active for many years, only his spoons are known.
