Description:
Treen or wooden circular bowl, painted off-white paint on the inside and dark blue-green paint on the outside. The interior has a deep, small well and 1 1/2" flared rim; and incised bands around the top and outside edge of the rim and base over the foot ring. Treen, which was a very inexpensive choice for tablewares, was turned or carved from locally available wood and cost only a few pence to purchase. Although used by many, by the mid-18th century wooden ware dishes had become considered unrefined for a genteel dining table.
