Description:
Linen napkin ring consisting of a band of brown plaid linen, fastened with a self-covered wooden dome-shaped button. The corresponding button hole is stitched with decorative bright blue thread. According to family tradition, this napkin ring was owned by Joseph Colton (1869-1952) as a boy, probably made by either his mother Susan Colton (before her death in July 1874) or his sister Maria Heard Colton (b. 1864) as a young girl's sewing project. This is an example of a more utilitarian example than traditional napkin rings made from wood or metal and as such, is a rare survival.
