Description:
One of a pair of pewter candlesticks with the touchmark of "R. GLEASON" in a rectangle on the base for Roswell Gleason (1799-1887) who worked between 1822-1871. Britannia was a harder metal than the earlier pewter, with greater resistance to wear; lead was eliminated and replaced with combinations of tin, copper and antimony. They have removable bobeches.
