Label Text:
This dish represents the group known as the "epigraphic ware" for its decorative emphasis on stylized inscriptions. The close-knit inscription repeats the Arabic Alkaraka, or blessing. Characteristic of this group is the sophisticated visual balance between solid and void, the brownish thick band of inscription, and the other decorative motifs of the saw tooth pattern at the rim and the long-beaked stylized bird at the center against a white surface.
