Label Text:
In William Jennys' portrait of Elizabeth Stone Coffin the sitter carries attributes that attest to her social standing. She holds a finely rendered red sewing kit in her hand and wears a ring, earrings, and a jeweled clip that fastens her blond curls. The more expensive three-quarter length format of this portrait is also an indication of her wealth.
