Label Text:
Spring was Tryon's favorite season. In April each year he left behind the dreary New York winter and returned to South Dartmouth. This painting is a celebration of the season. Tryon wrote to Beulah Strong, his assistant at Smith College, that "the tender greens of the ground, the pinks and faint yellows of the buds and the grays and purples of the trunks and branches of the trees have great charm and I made the most of my time studying this phase which to me is nature's finest."
