Description:
Day or afternoon dress consisting of a bodice fastened down the center front with 16 buttons and skirt in fashion fabric, a black (now faded to dark green) silk faille; both the bodice and foundation skirt are lined with cotton. Worn by a member of the donor's family in upstate New York, this dress represents the patronage of a skilled dressmaker by a wealthier woman. The garment itself is a good representation of the mid-1880s bustle style skirt drape seen in women's dress. The garment is in good condition and is well-made. See also V.114.
