Description:
Man's one piece, A-line robe or dressing gown of medium dark blue crushed velvet with matching satin trim around center front opening, cuffs, and patch pocket tops and lined in silk twill. There are five snaps down the front, possibly a later alteration. The robe secures with a braided belt ending on each side in a tassel; the belt is attached to the robe at center back, and is fed through one loop on each side to tie in front. The collar of the robe folds down to make a lapel-like effect. The cuffs are 5.0" long, and there is a matching facing of satin at robe bottom, also 5.0" long. There is an inside tag at collar that reads "Sibley, Lindsay, & Curr Co., Rochester, NY". The garment is machine stitched. Sibley, Lindsay & Curr was Rochester, New York's oldest and largest department store. Founded in 1868, it was locally owned until becoming a part of Associated Dry Goods Corporation in 1957.
