GEROULD & SON" in a rectangle on back of handle, and engraved with the initials "HSA" in script on the front of the handle. Samuel Allen Gerould (1793-1887) came to Keene in 1810 where he established his business. He was in partnership with his brother James Harvey Gerould (1798-1871) from about 1825-1844, and with his son, Samuel Allen, Jr. (1821-1899) from 1844-1867 when Samuel A., Sr. retired. Samul A., Jr. retired in 1869 and the business continued under his son, Henry Fiske Gerould (1853-1913), who is listed in the Keene City Directories in 1877 as a jeweler at the same address as his father and grandfather. He remained with his father, mother and grandfather until their deaths, and then lived with his brother, Joseph, in Attleborough, Massachusetts.
