Like thier adult contemporaries, girls' fashoins also changed with the seasons. This summer bonnet afforded lightweight protection from the sun. Despite its simplicity, hats like this example nonetheless required care to stay on the head, perched at the appropriate angle. Children's fashions helped prepare them for the concept of dressing for style and decorum, rather than strictly for comfort.
