Description:
Mounted carte de visite for Miss C. Alice Baker (1833-1909), which is inscribed by hand on the back. "Taken in Chicago between 1858-1864 - A small brown checked silk with plain brown prinked flounces, hooped skirt and "flowing sleeves" 1/2 yard full, and linen lawn underdress - These were kept in place by elastic bands (garters) round the top of the arm - narrow neck tie of silk and narrow turn over French embroidered muslin collar or plain linen.".
