Description:
Dressing table in cherry that was originally mahoganized, which according to tradtion was made by a member of the Hoyt family. Two other similar examples are known, one of which was owned by the Starr family who lived just south of Deerfield on the road to the Bars. Its form resembles a combination of the decorative elements of the Queen Anne/Chippendale styles and the linear lines of the Hepplewhite styles; similar pieces were made by Samuel Loomis III of Colchester, Connecticut. The table has a plain rectangular top over three drawers, with a carved fan in central drawer; the shapes of the carved lines running across the two side drawers in relationship to the top of the center drawer, look like the top of a broken scroll pediment. The table is supported on four thin square legs connected with four square stretchers.
