Description: Silver helmet-shaped milk pot with two engraved ovals on two sides of the body (no initials), triangle-shaped, reeded strap handle, and a raised foot, which is marked "HARDY" in a rectangle overstruck twice on the base for Stephen Hardy of Portsmouth. Born in Portsmouth, Hardy went to Boston before 1803 where he was apprenticed to Paul Revere, and returned to Portsmouth around 1803 to work with silversmith William Simes (1773-1824). From 1803-1824, Hardy advertised in the "New Hampshire Gazette" and "Portsmouth Oracle" (Portsmouth NH) from 1803-1824, with many ads referring to a long list of gold and silver articles for sale, various address changes, an apprentice wanted to the goldsmith business, and changeover to staple and fancy goods, selling of jewelry tools and business, furniture, iorn stove, etc.
