Description:
Evening dress worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986) during the late 1930s. Helen, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970), founded the Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerfield, in 1952. This evening dress, which was made from a vibrantly floral patterned silk or rayon set against a black background, has a pointed neckline edged in black net. The garment was probably custom made for Flynt by a dressmaker in Greenwich, Connecticut, where the family lived at this time.
