Description:
Sleeveless wrap or beach cover-up worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986) during the 1960s. Helen, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970), founded the Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerfield, in 1952. This garment was adapted from an Indian sari (possibly obtained by Flynt or supplied by the maker) by Janet Sloane, a custom dressmaker. Label: “Janet Sloane INC./ CUSTOM MADE CLOTHES.” Helen owned at least one other garment made by Sloane's firm; see 2019.30.6.
