Description:
Two piece suit (coat and breeches) worn by Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970) while a young boy in Monson, Massachusetts. The coat is constructed in a sailor style, trimmed with matching silk braid. The body of the coat and its sleeves are both lined in (different) cotton linings. The suit is a good example of late 19th-century boy's clothing from a wealthier family. The suit would have been worn with a white cotton shirt, black stockings, black boots, and possibly a sailor-style hat. Machine sewn with hand stitching. On the interior waistband of the breeches is stamped in purple ink "Excelsior Waist/ Patent/ June 20, 18[illeg.]/ 6/ [illeg.]"
