Description:
Print titled "Frederick the III / King of PRUSSIA" with "Pesne Pinx:" and "Boyce Sculp." in the lower corners. Although labeled "Frederick III" this is a print of Frederick II. Antoine Pesne and his workshop produced numerous portraits of Frederick II, both during his time as Crown Prince and following his coronation in 1740. Pesne developed this portrait type around the time of Frederick's ascent to the throne. It shows the King in half-length, facing right, and with a tricorn. A "Cut" of the King of Prussia was listed in the estate inventory of Esther Williams (1726-1800), widow of Dr. Thomas Williams (1718-1775) of Deerfield.
