Description:
Pieced and reconstituted early coverlet of crewel work (wool on linen) featuring scrolling flowers, vines, flowers, vases and baskets in browns, greens, yellows, reds, and blue yarns. Areas of newer linen have embroidery added to match older sections. "Betsy Clark her work 1767" appears in cross stitch along the upper edge. The coverlet was found in a junk shop in Boston by Margaret Whiting (1860-1946) and Ellen Miller (1854-1929, co- founders of the Society of Blue and White Needlework of Deerfield in 1895.
