Description:
Irish delft circular plate decorated in blue with a chinoiserie garden scene of a large peony and a smaller daisy-like flower, bamboo, and fence; the rim has a continuous band of a stylized leaf design. The base is marked with a painter's mark: "11". Pieces with similar decoration have been excavated in Chesterfield County, Virginia. A similarly decorated large dish, 14 1/2" in diameter, sold on EBay on December 5, 2002. It was marked in the back with the number "10." The plate also has the distinctive Dublin glaze known as "sunken blue", which occurs on the majority of blue-painted Dublin wares.
