Description:
Silver tablespoon with a pointed handle and pointed bowl with a rounded drop, which is marked: "J GARDNER" in a rectangle for John Gardner (Gardiner) (1734-1776), and engraved with the initials "NAD" in script on the front of the handle. After apprenticing with his uncle, silversmith Pygan Adams (1712-1776) in New London, Gardner continued to work there until the Revolutionary War when he was reported missing at the Battle of Long Island on Aug. 27, 1776.
