Description: Chinese export porcelain oval helmet-shaped cream pot or milk jug with shaped handle decorated with floral sprays in the Famille rose palette in pink, iron red, yellow, green, blue and gilding. According to David Howard, this type of jug does not appear to develop from an European form, but became increasingly popular after about 1770, becoming the principal form of Chinese milk jug until well into the 19th century. The pot has an outward turned and flared rim and spout, molded fluted pedestal, and round foot. There are four flower heads with leaves on the interior rim; two bands around the mid section with its three reserves with floral sprays; two matching gilt and red rococo scrolls on either side of the spout; other scattered florals sprays; and each of the pedestal flutes painted pink to resemble petals.
