Description:
Oval shaped tray with Haruamatsu [Matsu Shima] (translated-Pine Island) design in Maki-e. Maki-e = sprinkled picture. Design is drawn on the lacquer ground and powered with gold, silver, or dust of other metals. This term is used for all sorts of lacquer ware sprinkled with gold or silver. The landscape depicts pine trees on two separated islands, with waves in between and two sailboats in distance.
