Description:
Lead-glazed cream colored earthenware circular lobed rim plate, plate is press molded with a border of moths, roses, flowers, leaves, and a basket, the border is scalloped with a sawtooth design, this design is catalogued as Q.1 Moth in Angelika Kuettner's Appendix of White Salt Glazed Stoneware Patterns in Salt-Glazed Stoneware in Early America, the plate is decorated with underglaze metallic oxide colors, a blue sponged well and bouge, green, brown, and yellow on the border, and a brown colored rim. This plate is known in cream-colored earthenware as well as white salt-glazed stoneware. Wasters of tortoiseshell wares from the William Greatbatch site in Fenton, Staffordshire, were also decorated wiith small sponged pattern iike this example. Condition: Good other than minor glaze abrasions on the rim edge.
